For year's i've always refused to believe TFT's were any good for gaming, nothing but CRT's would do for me, "you don't get dead pixels on a crt" I use to always say put an end to any debate on CRT v's TFT and which is better.

Anyways against my better judgementI decided to get a TFT everyone was raving about how times have changed blah blah blah TFT's is where it's at now etc etc.. It's close enough to Christmas to justify a little pressie for me self so I bought one.

It arrived yesterday, all excited I hooked it up just to check all was present and correct and to see this brilliant difference to gaming this new monitor would make - switched my background to white to examin the screen and there bang in the fucking center of the screen a dead pixel..

Moral of the story? TFT's are shite you don't get dead pixles on a CRT - I don't care how much you say the technology has advanced. Also don't buy TFT monitors on e-bay even when the bastards say they are new gerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Dead pixles wont really affect your gaming.  I have dead pixles on mine as well, but you will only see them with some colours and not others.

Aye, but no doubt you've had a bit of wear and tear on your monitor first before they died, I mean if it's a brand new monitor I would expect them all to work for atleast a couple of years, not be DOA as it were...

Anyways i've put it down to dodgy e-bay more so than the monitor (It did look class except for the dead pixle tbh) and have ordered another from a legit store and packed up the faulty one to send back to the seller..

How much was the TFT you bought?  And it is acceptable to have up to 5 dead pixles depending on the quality of the monitor.  Top class monitors with a guaratnee off no dead pixles cost a lot more I think.

Ouch.  That was well expensive.  Seen a Samsung in a recent review that got really good remarks.  Look at http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/142378/art/samsung/syncmaster-930bf-19-tft-s.html

call the tech support of whoever you bought it off, *cough* i know that in some companies if a dead pixel is dead centre then they will replace it for you as it can affect the way you look at the screen, but only if its dead centre.

I have a 19" viewsonic 191s I find it a great. But it was costly.
Biggest point it has going for it I find is that it is light and easly moved. I brought it to the Lan, so much easyer to transport them a 19" CRT.

Due to the highly complicated ways that are involved in producing TFT's there is an accecptible level of dead pixels. This is usually, as Fairy said about 5 dead pixels.

Several companys produce high end TFT's that claim 0 Dead pixels. These are usually more expensive etc. Also, several web shops offer tests to check if they have dead pixels or not.

But still, you will find that most of TFT's these days have non to very few dead pixels.

Oh, do correct me if im wrong at all.

Tbh I thought I was being a wee bit anal about a dead pixel ( i know nothing about tft's except for the screens i've had on laptops) but it really was bugging the shite out of me, my eyes were just drawn to it all the time - anyways my replacement has arrived and not a dead Pixel in sight job's a good un!!
