Yep Karma you sure can. Ideally Jack if you post up your current config somewhere, ie your gfx card, processor, hd, etc etc, and then ask someone who is up on these things to recommend a new mb you should get one and have change from around ?50.

www.boards.ie has a good PC section, and Data should be able to point you in the right direction.

Have you considered buying a new box with a low end gfx card in it, but with decent ram, nd, and processor and then swop your card and sell your own pc? You'll get the cost of the new one without any difficulty.

Pretty good system for the price. The graphics is onboard so you could switch this off and stick in your current card. Lots of us here have old cards that you could stick in your current PC leaving you able to sell it.

Flashing the BIOS is the only thing I can think of to try and get the new RAM working on the old board.

Failing that this board @ ?33.99 inc. VAT should suit you Jack. It's a good brand at a good price. Specs here

It should work with your parts and it also supports newer stuff so if you want to upgrade your CPU or video card within the next year or so this board will allow it.

One thing to check though is whether it will fit into your case. What brand is your PC?

Are you mixing the ram with your old ram.Try it on its own in slot 0.

Then try slot 1.

Hell... aye i tried mixing and changing about ,just cant cope with more than a 256 stick.
when opening up the pc i found that the motherboard name above may be wrong .... i think its a Packard Bell Columbia GX. :?

Packard Bell are unfortunately one of the few manufacturers who have messed with their cases on some of their systems in the past to cut costs and make upgrading and repairing using non Packard Bell parts more difficult. A common problem to give one example is that the power supply might be mounted in such a way that it gets in the way of the CPU heatsink when it's mounted on a standard board.

That new board follows the Micro ATX standard. You need to find out if your system's case follows this standard in every way before spending any money. To do this either have someone who knows what to look for check out your case, or failing that post some pictures of the inside and rear of your PC up here so we can have a gawk.
