So i'm going want to get a new headset. this time i'm going for a surround sound one. These were the 2 i was looking at at
Speedlink medusa 5.1 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-033-SL&groupid=702&catid=1058&subcat=692)
and
Plantronics 777 USB 5.1 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-003-PT&groupid=702&catid=1058&subcat=692)
Anyone got any other suggestions? also is there anywhere cheaper to get them?

Had a few medusas, and while they are a great headset they dont take abuse. Well my level of abuse anyway. I suppose slamming them off the top of the desk doesnt help.....
They are a great headset, dont buy the usb ones though if you have a decent sound card as the usb ones use their own sound afaik.

Agreed. Use the "SK Gaming" one myself.

i went for the medusa's. Syco those sk gaming ones don't look great at all, maybe they sound good but they don't look to comfortable and look pretty small

Ya so i got the medusa and I have to say, I'm not particularly impressed. For starters the headphones are quite heavy on your head and the earcups are fairly thin. Thinner that my creative ones so they press in on your ears which isn't particularly comfortable and I'm sure would be very uncomfortable if you wore them for long periods of time. I also don't like that you can't turn off the mic by itself. You have to turn off the whole sound system for the headset. also the fact that they need a power supply is a bit lame too so that u can't take them with you and use them for other things. i'm going to test them out some more over the weekend and If i'm still not happy with them I'll be sending them back to overclockers

Havent used the sk gaming ones myself i have a 4 year old sennheiser set but dont recall the model.
Bloody great sound,build quality and comfort.
I would not suggest plantronics at all, decent sound but i went through 3 pairs of them before i discovered sennheiser,never had the medusa.

Aye. They are nice and comfy for long periods of gaming, and there's a wee switch to turn off the mic, as well as a volume control for the headphones.

Looks decent. Not sure about those ear pads though, when you get it, let us know if they're comfy?

Ya they look a little shallow. Tell if they are deep enough or if they push down on your ears. I think ?79 is too much for me. I felt a bit wrong paying ?54 for the medusa's

Probably depends on the size of your ears auld big ead ;)
aye ?79 was steep but worth it if the 'noise cancelling' means I can't hear the wife!

no noise cancelling tech is going to block some sounds out...

never seen your lobes! Get your hair cut than i can comment on them!

Got these now. Plenty of room for your lobes. About an 3/4 inch deep.
They are pretty heavy. But when wearing them the weight is well spread and you
don't really notice them.
Happy with them, try for yourselfs at lan.
