Ooooo, Mister richie richpants over there!

The 295's are out today, get three of those instead for Triple Sli and I'll take those disgusting, outdated 280's off your hands for a 50 quid disposal fee/charge

to give you an idea of the value i payed ?630 for my 8800 ultra one and a half years ago both of these for ?552 delivered and one of these cards would destroy the ultra. got two because i want to run 30"monitor at full res

works out dearer than the 4870x2 but in sli these are very good in comparison

Why? For cost? You go the i7 route, and then get a cheap gfx card?

/me glares from cheap seats....

Just set up the rig I got Dual Core 6400, 4Gb Ram, 640Mb HD Space, 8800GTS 640Mb and I snagged a brand new 1908 Dell Widescreen monitor for free ;).  Total cost to me at the moment ?289.  F'ing bargain.

The different in price is massive!! Sadly more proof of how badly we get ripped off in this country! Wish I'd seen this a week or 2 ago when the exchange rate was almost parity. Still not so bad at 89p for a euro

got this from komplett not long ago

A free of charge delivery has been created on the system for your monitor. If you do not receive your monitor in around roughly 10 days (including time to receive from supplier) dont hesitate to contact us again either here, or on boards to McKomplett via PM - as emails get sent when there is a PM

so should have a replacement by monday week at the latest (i hope)

i want it back as its pretty much the reason for the upgrade http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=347576

Question for you experts out there. I have a 8800GTS 512mb card and was quite happy with it on my old monitor (1280 resolution).

However since getting a 24" monitor, upping the res to 1900(or whatever it is..), i've noticed that I'm getting awful fps -- even in WoW, I'm getting about 14 fps in instances and in some cases just totally bogging down.

Unfortunately I don't have an SLI MoBo, but it does have an integrated ATI Radeon HD3200-based card with CrossFireX.

Now the question(s):

If I were to get a Radeon card and utilise CrossFireX together with the onboard graphics, would that outperform a single GeForce 9800GTX?

Will I see a huge improvement if I were to upgrade from an 8800 to a 9800?

Can't justify more than ?200 for a card at the moment, so that would be my limit.

any tips greatly appreciated!

(Edit: Been reading a bit more on CrossFireX: i better leave it alone I think and go with nVidia....)

guessing your still in canada beasty so you could go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801 fantastic card for the money and will run games at 1900x1080 easily the 9800 is a rebrand of the current card you have atm so would be a waste of money hope this helps you out

btw my graphics cards is now fucked writing this in safe mode lol

Thanks for that Grim! Not in Canada at the moment (was allowed to escape back home) ;) But I expect to go back there in a couple weeks, which isn't helping my need for instant gratification.

I've always had nVidia, and my "Id" side of me is whispering in my ear "cmon....get the GTX280...go on.....that's what Credit Cards are for!)

Am starting to read up on your suggestion and it does look like a decent card that would do the trick. Now if I only can wait that long.....argh.

Very nice overclock. Have yet to do so myself, due to the case fan being far slower than the one hooked on the TRUE120 heatsink. From the looks of it, you have a TRUE120 heatsick on yours, with two hugh fans on either side. Nice. Ran 3d mark myself, falling far short of yours, but meh, I expected to fall short, as you do have an i7 rig, with two 280's. Fuck ye :P

Well my new rig is up and running great here.  Unfortunately I broke a connector off one of the sata drives, it was raid 0, so took it as a sign and installed XP Pro instead of the vista it came with.  Took me a while to find all the drivers I needed but all is up and running now.  Christened it last night with some 1942, will do same again tonight but add in some 42 DC as well.

lol, completely random comment?  I've been meaning to get into iRacing though, G25 isn't seeing much use atm.

Fairy mentioned a site to me, elf.co.uk, reconditioned PC's, trade only, so I signed up for their pricelist and waited patiently.  Saw a good deal and ordered, turned out to be a pricing mistake, but they honoured the price shown.

Will report back on the system when it arrives...
