AVG antivirus, get it from grisoft.com ... free edition there is very good. I rate it better then norton.
Spybot Search and Destroy [google] shall remove spyware/some adware.
Ad-aware shall remove more adware and stuff..

Also, Windows Server Pack 2 shall help some security holes in Windows.

And, last but not least. Firefox. Safer and better browser then IE. http://www.getfirefox.com

go to

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger

download it.

Install AVG from Grisoft (linked above).

Download Spybot and Adaware
search for them on download.com , free anti-spyware software.

Install them all and turn off the PC. (stinger doesnt have to be installed, just leave it on the desktop).

Start the PC in safemode (press F8 once per second while the PC starts up, from teh text menu select "safemode" by itself - no networking etc) Log in as an administrator (or an account with admin rights).

Start a complete scan from teh AVG test centre (start>> programs>> AVG)
when thats finished, double click stinger and click browse to add other partitions, then scan now to set it going.

Run a scan with spybot.
Run a scan with adaware.

restart the PC and let it start up normally.

note: if you have ME or XP, disable system restore before going into safemode (right click my computer>>properties>>system restore>> tick the disable the box)  for winME I think it's hidden in the performance>>advanced tab.

Also, dont forget to update AVG (either auto update or download the .bin files from teh website and point to the folder you save them in) before you run it.

if u have a copy of NAV i'd use that. I don't really like AVG all that much, and it doesn't get updated all the much either.

Jack Dr Fairy recommends a complete reinstall.  Burn your pathes etc onto a cdr before hand.

It sounds like a browser hijack, can be a bastard to get rid off.
