Quote
1. What is your budget? ?500'ish

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming/Video editing/Photoshop
BF4, ARMA3, etc.

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?
Case: full tower Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 (very quite, would like to stay with this)
Soundcard: Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional, 64MB
SSD: Corsair Force GT 120GB
HDDs: 1TB, 1.5TB, 4TB
IDE DVD writer (would prefer to ditch this and just get a SATA DVD writer)

Currently running a quad Q9550 with a Thermalright "TRUE 120" heatsink

5. Do you need a monitor? No

5a. If yes, what size do you need. N/A

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 1680*1050 (Samsung Syncmaster 226BW) Don't intend to upgrade for the next while.

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes. Open to the idea, but due to poor ventilation, would probably need water cooling to do so.

8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer/Credit Card

9. When are you purchasing? 15th December, to ensure I get it by xmas. Yes, a long way off, but hope to get most of it soon, unless something "big" is coming?

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? No thanks :)
Any of ye have any suggestions?

Closer to "buy time", and I think I may be able to stretch the budget a little bit;

?176 Sapphire HD 7870 GHz Edition OC Version, 2GB GDDR5 PCI-Express, lite Retail (http://www.pixmania.ie/graphics-card/sapphire-technology-radeon-hd-7870-oc-ghz-edition-2-gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-11199-19-20g/20065851-a.html) (11199-19-20G)
?175 AMD FX-8350 Prozessor, Boxed, Sockel AM3+ (http://www.pixmania.ie/processor/amd-fx-8350-black-edition-4-ghz-socket-am3-fd8350frhkbox/19391633-a.html) (FD8350FRHKBOX)
?115 GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 (http://www.pixmania.ie/motherboard/gigabyte-ga-990fxa-ud3-socket-am3-chipset-amd-990fx-atx/11083978-a.html) (GA-990FXA-UD3)
?143 PATRIOT PC Viper 3 Series 2 x 8 GB (http://www.pixmania.ie/pc-memory/patriot-pc-viper-3-series-2-x-8-gb-memory-ddr3-1866-pc3-15000-cl10-pv316g186c0k/17246614-a.html) (PV316G186C0K)
Total: ?609 - a bit over budget, but meh.

Pffft. Have a tower, so could fit an ATX mobo in :P

=-=

Stuck between AMD's 8320 or 8350 or Intels i5-4570 or i5-4670. Although Intel's CPU is fairly powerful, AMD's octo core also looks fairly good. Gah.

Stretch a bit further on the card if you can http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-308-AS (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-308-AS)

Also get something like this cooler for the CPU, stock cooler is noisy and crap http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-CM (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-CM)

CPU and Mobo is same as mine.  Playing everything fine on 22" monitor.  Quite as anything as well!!

All bought, waiting for it to arrive. Went Intel in the end.

MSI GTX 760 TwinFrozr Gaming 2 GB (http://www.pixmania.ie/graphics-card/msi-geforce-gtx-760-2-gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-n760-tf-2gd5-oc/21481195-a.html)
i5-4670K (http://www.pixmania.ie/processor/intel-intel-haswell-core-i5-4670k-processor-socket-1150-bx80646i54670k/21381659-a.html)
GIGABYTE GA-Z87-HD3 (http://www.pixmania.ie/motherboard/gigabyte-ga-z87-hd3-socket-1150-chipset-z87-atx/21437027-a.html)
CORSAIR Vengeance Pro Blue PC memory 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1600 (http://www.pixmania.ie/pc-memory/corsair-vengeance-pro-blue-pc-memory-2-x-4-gb-ddr3-1600-pc3-12800-cl9/21793311-a.html)

Going to wait until RAM goes cheap again, before throwing more into it (more RAM is great for Photoshop).

Also getting another Razer Deathadder (http://www.pixmania.ie/mouse/razer-deathadder-2013-mouse/21300975-a.html), as the current RMB has failed some time ago. Getting an IDE-SATA (http://www.pixmania.ie/pc-tower-accessories/advance-ide-sata-two-way-adapter/01060074-a.html) adapter, as don't see the point in upgrading the DVD drive, and still need the VariRec capability for the time being.

What GPU do you have at the moment, if its not up to it you will only Bottleneck the CPU.  If you can afford the i7 then get it, but I'd go for i5 and a new GPU!
