New rig
« on: November 29, 2006, 04:48:10 PM »
Well, seems my PC is long overdue an upgrade. The last time I changed my GPU was a few months before I joined TiG ffs.

So, since most of you are nerds, can I ask for your advice?

What I think I want are...

An 8800 GTX
Intel E6700
Corsair Dominator 2 gig DDR2

So what do I need mobo wise? And will a standard mid sized tower be big enough?

Lastly, I plan to get another 8800 GTX down the line, so what PSU do I need?

All these questions eh??

I'm thinking of getting this around Febuary:

Think it covers everything you'd need...

Yeah nice alright.

My worry is space though with the GTX stuff. And what mobo gives that space?

Never worry about space, just do what i did ...get the hacksaw out !
Nice time for building a rig at the moment with Windows Vista on the way making alot of the parts cheap, you can get another good year or 2 from xp anyways so i wouldnt worry.

Well it's long rather than really wide. The trick is to get a case that will fit it. The MSI cards get a good review on tomshardware and looks like they have enough space on the board...
