Portable hard drives
« on: March 12, 2010, 04:50:57 PM »
Hey thinking about buying a portable harddrive and adding videos and films to it etc.

I have my eye on 3 products atm.

I believe I can log into this over the internet and copy files if needed and  view films etc on any pc that is connected to my home network.

Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB Home Network Storage
Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB ...

The others are just simple 1tb hard drives that are cheap.

Hitachi LS-1000
Hitachi LS-1000...

seagate:
Seagate-Expansions-External-Desktop-Drive...

The diffrence is around 60quid, but if anyone else has this type of setup could they point me in the right direction.

I am thinking of getting the Western Digital My Book it has more features but would it worth it or should I keep things simple.

The NAS box is handy if you have multiple machines that are going to access it (in a home LAN), or if you can watch movies from it at an external loaction or on the move (is your upload speed good?), otherwise, stick with the simple Western Digital hard-drive.
