Question for ye all; where do you place the joystick? Have seen various setups;

Joystick on right, next to leg
Joystick in middle, between legs
Also have seen joystick on the desk, middle above legs

Have the joystick on a stool to my right atm, but will probably tie to down better in a while, as it's not always staying on the stool when I'm banking left or right.

right in front of me, need it to control teh rudder, although it can sometimes be a bit messy trying to get to the keyboard for landing gear etc.

Aye. Have repostioned it to just in front of the right armrest, and it made a lot of difference.

As for landing gear, I've set it to a switch on the joystick, but will probably change it to a button on the throttle section (http://www.ohioraceguy.com/photogallery/IL2_1946/Saitek%20X52%20Throttle%20Blank.jpg).

My current button setup on the jostick of the X52 is;

I thought you may have found a strategic reason, for example if certain planes were quicker or that you got points for flying with them faster, etc, and was interested. The above video is interesting, and I think I'll put all my bombers into two classes, and have two classes for fighters, as although the cheap German bombers are not bad, they're not that nimble. In saying that, they do glide okay when the engine goes.
