Title: Blu-Ray Sound Issues
Post by: Nelix on February 13, 2011, 08:37:44 PM
I have noticed that when watching Blu-Ray movies that in any shots where there is music or other background noise, I can hardly make out what is being said.  It is af if the background noise takes preference over everything.  I am connected via HDMI cable and no surrond sound.

Has anyone expereineced this and have a solution?

Neil get yourself a decent surround system, with a dedicated centre for dialog!

I got this system recently, SKY HD, PC and PS3 all connected via HDMI/Optical Onkyo HT-S5305 (http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=3&sub=26&productid=1052)

The little Sony system I had before would have suited you.  Any 5.1 amp that can do Dolby Digital and has an optical in will do a great job.

Sold it on Neil.  I have a decent Sony amp here, but its a bit old and doesnt have hdmi in etc.  It does have optical and coaxial in however, but you would still need speakers etc.

I'd say get an integrated 5.1 unit or perhaps a blu ray player that comes with it's own 5.1 system. I got a decoder + speakers, but cabling etc adds a lot to the price and it's not cheap to start. It's a great system, but costly.

Also, have you made sure you're playing the movies in 2.1 sound? IF they're set to 5.1, you'll be losing a lad of the audio on a standard setup.

Neil the previous system I had was pretty good, http://www.digital247.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=483&zenid=eca743e56094f1623fee54959147c788 (http://www.digital247.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=483&zenid=eca743e56094f1623fee54959147c788) however needs something like this if dealing with multiple optical inputs http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1013 (http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1013).

Sound from this system will knock your TV for 6 tbh, and will increase viewing quality from your SKY/BluRay/DVD and PC inputs etc.

Will need to look into a "Cheap" option as even some HD programmes are impossible to watch.  Have looked at the various sound settings on the TV with no great improvement.
